Abigail’s Footsteps is a Kent based charity that offers support to families dealing with the heartbreak of baby loss. It was established in 2010 by Jo and David Ward in memory of their daughter, Abigail, who was stillborn at 41 weeks gestation in April 2009 at Medway Maritime Hospital.

Abigail’s Footsteps is dedicated to providing support and bereavement care to parents who have experienced the loss of a beloved baby. Our mission is to ensure that bereaved parents receive the highest standard of care. Abigail’s supports parents who have lost a cherished baby by offering bereavement care and support following their loss.

We achieve this through four key pillars of provision:

1. Offering healthcare professionals excellent training and support in bereavement care.

2. Ensuring that the facilities and environment are available in hospitals for bereaved parents and families.

3. Providing parents with appropriate counselling and support.

4. Delivering Professional Reflective Occupational Practice to healthcare professionals.

Our vision is to partner with the NHS to enhance bereavement care and support for parents and families after the loss of a beloved baby, both in the hospital and at home.

Building on the strong foundations established in our first 14 years, we seek to consolidate and continually improve our service offerings while also venturing into new areas of influence within our sector as a key advocate and challenger.
