This is a framed original charcoal drawing of a lion and a lioness rubbing noses by the current Big Cat Sanctuary artist in residence Chris Wood.
Lions regularly perform peaceful tactile actions such as licking each other and rubbing heads. This is part of the hierarchal system within a pride. Head rubbing, or nuzzling, is a common greeting behaviour for lions. They also communicate through a variety of vocalizations including purrs, snarls and hissing.
